Our interns have been at the core of our operations this summer. A CT native, basketball-playing, art-lover, Stephanie has spent her time building collections for the site, creating beautiful boards on Pinterest (and providing inspiration for many of the posts you’ve seen here and here), and wowing us with her amazing fashion-sense. We managed to grab her for a few questions (answers below) before her last day at Artspace and we wish her the best of luck in school next semester!
What is your favorite art space?
The Roman Courtyard at the Met. It’s open, airy, and beautiful. Walking through the marble sculptures is somewhat dream-like.
Who is your favorite artist?
Pablo Picasso. I know that’s not the most original selection, but his works are why I fell in love with art.
When were you first exposed to art/ the art world?
I was lucky enough to attend a high school that had its own museum and beautiful gallery space. Located in an old New England town, my school’s museum possesses a large collection of plaster casts, which were acquired long ago when it was still considered okay to make casts of the Pergamon Alter and the Laocoon Group and ship them across the Atlantic. Needless to say, the museum truly helped foster my passion for art and helped expose me to the art world.
Do you create art?
I picked up drawing and painting in high school and still try to make things whenever I get the chance. There’s nothing more therapeutic than losing yourself in a piece of art for a few hours.
What’s one item you can’t live without?
A basketball. I have been playing since I was 6 years old and continue to play in college. Art loving basketball players are not necessarily the most common to come by, but it works for me.
What’s your favorite food to snack on while in the office?
Dried apple slices. They’re like candy
If you could steal a work from any institution, what would you steal?
Girl Before a Mirror by Picasso from the MoMA. It is hands down my favorite work, plus I think it would look nice in my living room.
