Cabeza de Vaca, Sorcerer, 2005
There are so many works of art that have boring or obvious titles or no titles at all, so it’s fun when I come across titles that make me want to investigate the meaning further. Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish explorer who landed lear Tampa Bay, Florida in the 1520s. He was enslaved at one point by Native Americans and eventually escaped. He continued to explore the New World, trading with the indigenous population and becoming a faith healer. He developed a reputation among the natives as a sorcerer with the power to heal and destroy. –CAROLINE
